Has your manuscript been through the wringer with a developmental edit and/or a line edit? The next step toward publication involves getting down to the nitty-gritty with a copy edit. This level of editing addresses various mechanical errors and includes:
- Correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting
- Noting repetition and awkward phrasing and offering alternatives
- Ensuring style and content consistency (e.g., italics, ellipses)
- Flagging continuity problems
- Flagging potential libel or copyright issues
- Verifying accuracy of facts with light to moderate fact-checking
Copyediting does not address major plot or structural issues (this should have been done during a developmental edit), nor does it include rewriting of more than a word or phrase here and there (anything more substantial would be done during a line edit).
What you get:
- One (1) initial copyedit
- One (1) 60-minute follow-up call within 14 days of delivery (optional)
- One (1) revision
- One (1) style sheet
How soon you get it:
- Generally 2-4 weeks after manuscript delivery
- If you need a project back before the date I provide after a sample edit, a rush fee of 25% of the total project cost will be added as this requires me to put other responsibilities on hold so I can finish by the deadline.
