If your manuscript has been through multiple revisions and you’ve got a solid plot and cast of characters that you’re finally happy with, bravo! The next step in your journey to publication is a line edit. This level of editing improves tone, flow, clarity, and language use. It includes:
- Rewording awkward phrasing
- Eliminating redundancies
- Adjusting sentence structure
- Refining pacing and rhythm
- Flagging inconsistencies
- Verifying statement accuracy
- Preserving writer voice
Line editing does not address major plot or structural issues (this should have been done during a developmental edit), nor does it correct mechanical errors (this is copyediting). Note that line editing is the only level of editing that includes substantial rewriting of phrases, sentences, and paragraphs as needed.
That being said, at no time will I make an edit that does not take into consideration your voice! As the author, your story has been written in the unique way that only you could have written it. We are not coauthors, so the manuscript will remain free of my voice. If I suggest a rewrite and give you examples of how something could be worded instead, it’s up to you whether you take the suggestion as-is, write something else, or ignore it entirely. You always get the final say.
What you get:
- One (1) initial line edit
- One (1) 60-minute follow-up Zoom call within 14 days of delivery (optional)
- One (1) revision
- One (1) editorial letter
- One (1) style sheet
How soon you get it:
- Generally 3-5 weeks after manuscript delivery
- If you need a project back before the date I provide after a sample edit, a rush fee of 25% of the total project cost will be added as this requires me to put other responsibilities on hold so I can finish by the deadline.
