Once your manuscript has been through all other levels of editing, it’s time for one last polish. Proofreading is a final check for manuscripts that are almost ready for publication and includes:
- Correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting
- Ensuring consistency of names, dates, numbers, etc.
- Verifying accuracy of obvious facts (e.g., “The dog is brown.”)
Proofreading does not address major plot or structural issues (this should have been done during a developmental edit), nor does it correct mechanical errors on more than a surface level (a deeper edit would have been done during a line edit and copyedit).
I can proofread manuscripts in either Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat. My process has been optimized for Word documents, however, so PDFs that need proofread in Acrobat will require a slightly longer turnaround time. I do not format manuscripts for publication, as formatting is its own service, but I do check that those already formatted are correct and consistent.
What you get:
- One (1) round of proofreading
- One (1) 30-minute follow-up Zoom call within 14 days of delivery (optional)
- One (1) style sheet
How soon you get it:
- 1-2 weeks after manuscript delivery
- If you need a project back before the date I provide after a sample edit, a rush fee of 25% of the total project cost will be added as this requires me to put other responsibilities on hold so I can finish by the deadline..
